Welcome to the Uluru Convoy!

Thanks for letting us take on this awesome adventure with you! This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that your family will talk about forever.

You’ll see amazing things, meet some really cool people and walk away feeling that you really accomplished something. Your kids will make heaps of new friends, learn lots and get to enjoy a very special travel experience on their own level.

Important notes for day one:

  • Please let us know if you’re planning to meet us in Adelaide, or if you’re going directly to the first campsite. Either way is fine, we just need to know so we don’t wait for you

  • Please make sure at least one member of each family attends the safety briefing in the recreation room at Nuttbush Retreat at 5:45

General notes for day one

  • BP Wingfield

On day one you have two options - you can meet us in Adelaide, or go directly to the first campsite and catch up with us there. Please let us know which option you choose.

If you would like to meet us in Adelaide, we’ll be meeting at 10am at BP Wingfield, on the corner of Grand Junction Road and Dunstand Road. It has a large carpark around the back - just park there and look for us.

Our vehicles are getting serviced at the moment, so we are in 2 rental vehicles - a white van with Budget Rental branding and a small box truck with Hertz branding.

Brenda will be in the BP carpark near the white van, waiting excitedly to meet you.

  • Nuttbush Retreat

We think meeting at the first campsite is probably the best option, because it takes away the time pressure on a day that’s already a bit stressful.

Everyone is always pretty nervous and excited the first day, so some families find it easier to make their own way to the first campsite in their own time.

If you would like to do that, head to Nuttbush retreat, Eyre Highway Port Augusta. To get there you go through Port Augusta, turn off at the Eyre Highway and keep going.

Things to see on the way

  • Lake Bumbunga

Lake Bumbunga is a great place to stop of a break and a selfie on the way from Adelaide to Port Augusta.

The lake changes colour from pink, to white, to blue, depending on the salinity of the water throughout the year.

It even has its own Loch Ness Monster!

  • Port Germein Jetty

Port Germein Jetty was once the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere.

It’s more than 1.5kms long, but you can’t really appreciate just how long that actually is until you’re standing on it.

It’s about an hour past the Pink Lake and an hour from the first campsite

  • Port Augusta

This is the last proper town before we head off into the outback.

It’s about 25 minutes from the first campsite, so if you find that you’ve forgotten something on the first night, you’ll be able to grab it at Port Augusta on day two.

It’s also a great place to stock up on anything that you might need that’s a bit unusual, like almond milk or vegan food. There are supermarkets further along, but they’re small and they don’t have as much variety as the big ones in Port Augusta
