Day 13 - Woomera to Mount Remarkable

On day 13 we’ll drive about 3.5 hours to Mount Remarkable.

The difference between this campsite and the last couldn’t be more stark and is a real reminder of how varied the Australian landscape is.

Woomera is dry, flat and dusty, with hard, rocky ground. Mount Remarkable is lush and green, with steep mountains and lots of trees. Both are beautiful in their own way, but there’s something very special about Mount Remarkable.

Some families will skip the final night of the trip - depending on where they’re heading it can add quite a bit of extra distance to the drive home. So day 13 is a bit of a bonus night.

If you can make it though, we highly recommend it. It’s one of our favourite campsites.

There’s a cool little ghost tour near the campsite that’s a lot of fun for adults and older kids. Tickets need to be booked in advance, so let us know on day 12 if you’re interested in that.

Important notes for day 13:

  • You’re welcome to skip this day if you’re in a hurry to go home or if it adds too much extra distance to your journey home

General notes for day 13

  • 261 kms

The drive today is about 3.5 hours, back through Port Augusta and up through the mountains to Mount Remarkable.

It’s a very pretty drive once you get past Port Augusta, but not a difficult or dangerous one, even with a caravan.

  • Melrose Showgrounds

Our campground for the night will be the Melrose Showgrounds. It’s a beautiful spot, with lots of space to spread out and run around.

You can choose where you would like to park, but if you want a powered site and toilets you need to park near the big sheds.
