Day 5 - Coober Pedy
Coober Pedy is a great little town and lots of people on this trip enjoy it as much, or even more, than Uluru.
It’s bigger than you might expect, with a supermarket, a couple of roadhouses, a pharmacy, tire shop, mechanic, restaurants and a hardware shop.
But the main thing Coober Pedy is known for is opals! There are lots of little opal shops and museums in the main street.
Important notes for day five:
We’ll be taking tours of underground houses, an opal facility and The Breakaways, Dog Fence and Moon Plains on days five and six. Felicity will let you know what days and times your tours are

Mine Tours
There are lots of mine tours available in Coober Pedy, both underground and above ground. The Umoona one is especially good, and so is the one at Tom’s Opal Mine.
Riba’s, where we are staying on the way home, also does a really interesting mine tour, so that’s a good option if you don’t have time on the way up. -
Food
Outback Bar & Grill has a big menu, including pizza, pasta and seafood, but it’s mostly known for its excellent souvlakis.
John’s Pizza Bar & Restaurant is also great, but waiting times can be quite long so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time.
