Day 6 - Coober Pedy to Erldunda
We’ll hit the road again on day six, with the longest drive of the trip. Five hours to Erldunda.
This is a pretty remote area without much phone coverage, so we recommend staying in front of the support vehicle and keeping your satellite device on.
Don’t forget to take a 15-30 minute break at least every couple of hours, to stretch and avoid fatigue. You’ll definitely start to feel it in your shoulders later in the trip if you don’t.
Important notes for day six:
Make sure you fuel up at Cadney, Marla and Kulgera. It’s 155kms from Coober Pedy to Cadney, then 84kms from Cadney to Marla, 180kms from Marla to Kulgera and 74kms from Kulgera to Erldunda
Make sure you take breaks along the way
General notes for day six
-
488 kms
The drive today is about 5 hours, but most people will probably stop for a few break along the way so it will probably take most of the day.
Make sure you download something to listen to on the way, because there isn’t a lot of phone coverage.
Glendambo is a good place to stop for lunch. The petrol stations have takeaway food, or you can have sit-down meal. -
Erldunda Desert Oaks Resort
Our campsite for the night is Erldunda Desert Oaks Resort. It's always one of the favourite campsites on this trip and nobody is quite sure why. It just has a really nice vibe.
There’s a playground for the kids, a pub that serves pretty good meals, a petrol station and a really cool little sunset viewing platform.
But the best part is the animals. They have camels you can pat and there’s a large emu enclosure. You can buy food for them at the petrol station. There’s also a famous rooster called Cluck Norris, who thinks he’s a kangaroo.
